I have a question about what can be bought on Medicaid. I have noticed when I am in line people purchasing items like, bakery cakes and coca colas. I was under the impression that medicaid was for the essentially for survival. I do not consider birthday cakes a exxential item. Please inform me about what my tax dollars will cover. I do not have a problem with providing a lone star card for those in need but I do not like to see it abused.
You CAN use SNAP benefits to buy:
Foods for the household to eat, such as:
breads and cereals, fruits and vegetables meats, fish and poultry; and dairy products, Seeds and plants to produce food for the household to eat
You CANNOT use SNAP benefits to buy:
Beer, wine, liquor, cigarettes or tobacco Any nonfood items, such as pet foods, soaps, paper products, diapers, and household supplies. Vitamins and medicines Food that will be eaten in the store, Hot foods
