I was in an accident last year July 1, 2022. Also still waiting for disability. with no income and now insurance failing we need help asap. Please we’ve lost all of our saving our car if not for our son, our home. Desperate!!!

A) I’m sorry to hear about your situation. I can imagine how stressful and frustrating it must be for you and your husband. You have done the right thing by applying for GA Medicaid online. However, it may take some time for your application to be processed and approved. According to the Georgia Medicaid website, you can check the status of your application by logging into your Georgia Gateway account or calling the Customer Service at (877) 423-4746. You can also contact them by email at contactus@dch.ga.gov.

If you need urgent medical care, you may be eligible for emergency Medicaid services. Emergency Medicaid is a program that covers medical costs for certain non-citizens who have a medical emergency and meet other eligibility criteria. To apply for emergency Medicaid, you will need to fill out a paper application and submit it to your local DFCS office or fax it to (877) 423-5938. You can find the paper application and more information on the Georgia Gateway website.

Here are some additional steps you can take:

  1. Medicaid Application Status: Since you’ve already applied for Medicaid online, it’s understandable that you want to check on the status of your application. To do that, you should try to contact the Georgia Department of Community Health, which administers Medicaid in the state. You can call them directly or check your application status online if they provide such an option.
  2. Reapplying for Medicaid: You mentioned that you reapplied on July 31, 2023. When reapplying, make sure you double-check that all the required information and documents are submitted accurately to avoid any delays in processing your application.
  3. Healthcare Options: Given your husband’s health conditions and the issues with your current insurance coverage, it’s crucial to explore alternative healthcare options. With your husband’s serious medical conditions, he may be eligible for disability benefits through the Social Security Administration (SSA). I understand that you’ve been waiting for disability, but you might want to consult with a disability attorney or advocate to understand your options and potentially expedite the process.
  4. Local Assistance Programs: Since you’re facing financial hardship, it’s essential to look into local assistance programs that may provide help with housing, food, and other necessities. Community organizations, non-profits, and social services agencies in your area might offer support to individuals in challenging situations.
  5. Emergency Medical Care: In the case of urgent medical needs, do not hesitate to visit the nearest emergency room or contact your husband’s healthcare provider for advice on what to do if his conditions worsen.
  6. Medicaid Advocacy: If you encounter difficulties getting the assistance you need, consider reaching out to a Medicaid advocate or ombudsman. They can assist you in navigating the system and advocating for your rights.
  7. Seek Legal and Financial Advice: Given the complexity of your situation, it might be helpful to consult with an attorney who specializes in disability and healthcare law. Additionally, consider seeking financial counseling to manage your current financial situation effectively.

Remember, you don’t have to go through this alone. Reach out to friends, family, or any local support groups that may be able to offer help or guidance.
